This course on Sports Nutrition is designed as a Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) for students in their third semester who have chosen Food Science and Dietetics as their area of specialization. The course aims to provide foundational and applied knowledge in the field of sports nutrition, equipping students with the skills necessary to understand and apply nutritional principles to enhance physical performance, support recovery, and promote overall health among athletes and active individuals.
The curriculum integrates core concepts of human nutrition, exercise physiology, and sports science, focusing on the role of macronutrients, micronutrients, hydration, and supplementation in athletic performance. Students will explore the unique nutritional requirements of individuals engaged in various types of physical activity, ranging from recreational fitness to competitive sports. The course will also cover meal planning strategies, timing of nutrient intake, and the psychological aspects of eating behavior in athletes.
By the end of the course, students will be able to assess the dietary needs of physically active individuals, develop personalized nutrition plans, and provide evidence-based dietary recommendations for performance enhancement and recovery.
